Are Interim Managers a Smart HR Move or a Cost-Cutting Gamble in Indian Corporates?

Dear All Citehrites,

This article is with reference to an article published in the Economics Times dated today about the new trend of Interim Managers in Indian corporates nowadays. What are Interim Managers? They are professionals who possess a pool of wealthy skills, knowledge, talent, and a strong vision about the trends prevailing in the industry. They work for a short term, often for just a few months, but in strategic roles to head a function or ensure the smooth integration of businesses. They also provide good strategic inputs in the company.

However, they work only for temporary positions and are paid lower costs than consultants. According to the article, these individuals prefer Flexi-Timings. I want to ask each of you whether the trend of hiring skilled, talented, knowledgeable professionals for short or temporary positions and also at lower costs than consultants is good or bad according to HR parlances or phraseology???

Do reply...

Good topic.
Seniors, please reply.

This might sound great to the cost-saving organization; they would love such ideas. But what about the idea of being a good employer? Where does the reputation of an organization stand after treating human capital like that?

I had attended a debate on temping, but I really want to listen to what the industry leaders have to say about that!

The Rise of Flexible Employment

The concept of flexible employment has become very popular in the US, Europe, and other parts of the world. Interim employment is beneficial to both the company and professionals. The professional can choose the assignments and work timings, while companies save on additional benefits and costs associated with hiring a regular employee. An interim manager can start delivering from the beginning without needing to "settle down" like a regular employee. The Key Result Areas (KRAs) of a flexible manager are fixed, and performance is measured based on them.

Therefore, we should welcome this concept and progress towards being more open to employing flexible talent in our corporations.
