Left a Job After 3 Days Due to Night Shifts – Is It Okay to Reapply Years Later?

There was this HR company (BPO dealing in HR) in Mumbai, which gave me an offer letter in 2006 (before doing MBA in HR from 2006-08). The job out there was purely related to HR. After they gave me an offer, I joined the company and attended the training for 3 days. However, after 3 days, I thought I should leave the company because they were changing the timings and making the whole training a night shift. Even the work timing out there was supposedly night shift, so I left the company after attending 3 days of training.

So wanted to ask, is it okay if I apply again to that company? Will it work?

If you have any plans to re-enter your previous employer, just drop that because they may not consider you the same way as they did before. It might be better for you to try applying to other companies.

It sometimes happens that candidates rejoin their previous employer. It totally depends on your PR how strong your relationship is with the people at that company.

However, in your case, you can't apply there as you haven't even completed your training there. Without informing them, you left that company. I believe before joining, you were aware that the job would involve night shifts, but despite this knowledge, you joined as a trainee and left at the end of the day. It would be best for you to move on and forget about that company.

Most BPOs blacklist candidates who leave without notice, and their personnel file is marked as "Unfit for rehire." This is done so that in case any such employee comes later, and the team/management has been changed, they can always go back to the file.

Sometimes companies do call back such candidates also because they don't want to go through the entire cycle of sourcing again, and also to get feedback as to why they left in the first place. However, you should never join back at the same designation if you have worked elsewhere.

You will have to justify yourself for the reason you have dropped your plan to continue with this employer. I feel it may be due to the night shift. You should have discussed this with your employer before discontinuing. Even now, if the employer is good, you can have a discussion. If the terms are agreed upon and you have no other option but to join, in that case, you can join for the time being. This way, with your qualifications and experience, you may have more opportunities to shift out quickly. There is no harm in rejoining the same employer if the relationship between you and the employer is not broken.
