Seeking Advice: How to Prepare for the XLRI Satellite Program Interview?

I am starting this thread as we have very little information regarding such courses and would like to know more about this from people who have already completed or are still pursuing this course.

I have applied for the XLRI PGCHRM program from the Reliance Web World for the January 2009 session. I am an ERP consultant in an IT firm with 2 years of work experience. The interview for this course would be conducted in the first week of September.

People who have already enrolled and experienced this interview or have completed this course, kindly guide me on the interview pattern and the guidelines to be followed to get through this institute.

I really need some help to prepare myself for this interview as I have no idea and found no one sharing their experiences on this. People, please share your experiences.

This is an excellent program for experienced people, but they would expect relevant experience. A few of my friends have enrolled, but they prefer more HR experience rather than irrelevant skills.

Hi, I am also planning to pursue the same course. However, my seniors have advised against it, stating that it may not be as valuable as a traditional part-time MBA in HR. Is this true? What degree do they offer? There are three different organizations that offer this course: Hughes Net Global Education, NIIT, and Reliance. Which one provides the best service?

I have also enrolled myself in the program for the Jan-09 session. I am eagerly awaiting my interview call. I have heard that the course is quite challenging as it involves virtual classes conducted by XLRI professors, along with tests and project work. You can choose any service provider.

Is PGCHRM-XLRI recognized by reputable organizations? Please conduct some research on your end and provide information accordingly. This will help in deciding whether one should opt for the course or not.

I am unsure of the basis on which your seniors are comparing this course to other part-time options, a perspective with which I disagree.

Firstly, full-time courses typically hold a higher value compared to part-time programs. Secondly, traditional part-time courses often lack intensity, have minimal assignments and project requirements, and lack in interactive elements. The course curriculum may also be less effective.

What I have heard so far is that they won't grill you much like the so-called XL interviews. However, they will ask you some basic questions such as:
1. Why this course?
2. How will this course help you in your career?
3. Where do you see yourself 5 years down the line?

Something like this.

Hi Ketty,

Basically, the XL professors would be more interested in why you are taking up this course and how it would help you in your future endeavors. There was just one professor conducting my interview, but later another professor joined. I was first asked to tell us about yourself, where I described all about my education and current work profile. Being a software engineer, I was repeatedly asked why I want to pursue this course and why make a shift to the HR domain. The interview lasted for around 10 minutes.

Don't worry, you actually don't need much preparation for the interview, but be clear about what you want out of this course and convey that clearly.

I have gone through this discussion and found that most of them are going to attend the interview. Can anybody tell me about the experience after the interview of PGCHR from XLRI? Has anyone started this course? What is the fee structure? Does this course hold value in MNCs like TCS, Microsoft, Infosys?

I appeared for the interview on 29th of April and got selected!!

Giving a brief overview of my interview. It was a weird experience. There were 2 people in their mid-30s to conduct the interview. The first question they asked me was the meaning of my name. Then the usual "tell us about yourself" question. Next, I was asked, "Is school life more enjoyable or college life?" This was followed by questions about my current work experience and previous work experience. During the discussion, one of the interviewers interrupted and asked, "In EXCEL, we have two tabs: Enable Macros and Disable Macros. Can you explain the difference between the two? Also, tell us what Macros are." [P.S. - Please note I did English Hons. and had no background in IT].

Then, I was asked to name 10 CEOs from around the globe. After that, I had to name 5 HR Heads from different companies. The next question was, "What is the difference between a Private Limited company and a Limited company?"

As if that was not enough, I was asked to name 5 authors of Indian origin who have written novels in English and some of their notable works. They asked about Arundhati Roy and her latest association. Then, a simpler question followed: "Why should we select you for the course?"

After a long and intense grilling, they asked if there was anything else I wanted to mention for my selection in the course.

Phew, that was a lot to handle. But now that I'm in, I'm happy :).

Hi, I am currently working as an assistant manager in the HR department. I have 4 years of work experience. I have also completed MMS in HR from Mumbai University. Can anyone tell me if XLRI satellite program PGCHRM is any different from the MMS course and if I should go for it? I want to pursue a course that will add value for me now to help me climb up the career ladder.

I appeared for the interview for PGCHRM last week. My interview took place through video conferencing with 2 professors from XLRI. They asked me to introduce myself and elaborate on my current role. The interviewers basically wanted to know about my personal achievements and then evaluate how important this course may be for me. I'm still awaiting my results! Wish me luck :)
