MBA Student Needs Guidance on Competency Mapping for Summer HR Project

Hi All,

I am working on my summer project currently, and there are two aspects to my project:

(1) To conduct a competency-based job analysis and write job descriptions based on it. Compare it with the available/current job descriptions and perform gap analysis to make recommendations.

(2) To design a competency mapping framework for the organization.

The organization has five vertical marketing channels, and there are salespersons and field engineers out there selling computers and providing services to clients. I would like to know how to identify the competencies essential for the employees to align with the objectives of the organization; how to measure these competencies for different levels of jobs and how to present the data and results obtained from it in the form of a competency map. In short, I want to know EVERYTHING about Competency Mapping. If you could suggest books I could read, websites I could visit, and resources/tools (freeware) I could make use of, that would be of immense help.
