Understanding Air Ticket Entitlements for Expat Employees: How Often and Who Pays?

shailakoppal
Dear all,

I have some queries on the air ticket entitlement for expatriate employees. What is the frequency of the ticket? Do all expats get the ticket once a year or once every two years? Do companies book the ticket for the employee, or do they pay money to the employee instead of giving the ticket? Where money is given, how is the amount of money calculated? Do employers pay the published IATA fares, or do they have different ways of calculating the amount? Given the fact that a major population of expats are laborers, how do companies handle the air ticket benefit for them?

Looking forward to your responses.

Dear Shaila,

We have 5 types of ticket entitlement:

- GM, HOD, Sr. Mgr - 6 months FAMILY TICKET (1+1+2)
- Dept Mgr - 12 months 2 tickets (Wife)
- Asst Mgr - 12 months 1 ticket
- Non-Manager - 12 months 1 ticket
- Plant Supervisor - 18 months 1 ticket
- Plant Labour - 24 months 1 ticket

A common problem for all companies. Please ask your employees to submit ticket invoices based on the ticket rate for reimbursement.

Dear Shaila,

Generally, air tickets are given in two segments, namely:
- yearly
- once every two years

It's at the sole discretion of the company whether to issue tickets yearly or once in two years. Typically, blue-collar employees receive tickets once every two years along with their leave salary, while white-collar employees receive them once a year along with their leave salary.

Secondly, some companies partner with a travel agency to issue all their air tickets. A few larger companies have a fixed rate for various destinations for that year.

If companies are paying in cash, they provide it based on the existing IATA fares.

With a high number of employees, companies generally choose to pay the amount into their salaries in the due month. They have a fixed rate for various destinations for that year (as mentioned above). This method is hassle-free and saves a lot of time and work.

I hope this clarifies your queries.
