Struggling to Prove Past Employment Without Payslips or PF/ESI Numbers – Need Urgent Advice!

First of all, I would like to thank you for taking your precious time to read my thread. I worked in a small private company for a meager salary of Rs. 7000, and they paid me in cash every month. The company started deducting PF and ESI from the date I joined. Due to losses, the company closed two months ago. I repeatedly asked for my PF and ESI numbers, but they didn't respond to my queries.

I had an opportunity to join an MNC, but they required my payslip and asked for my PF and ESI numbers, which I didn't have. Consequently, they refused to consider my application. Without a proper salary slip containing the PF and ESI numbers, I am unable to prove my previous earnings. Even if an MNC requests a salary certificate in place of a payslip, I cannot provide it as the company is closed, and the owner has left without any contact information.

When I consulted a friend, they suggested that the company may not have been registered. My family is facing a deep financial crisis, and I urgently need to secure a good job in an MNC. However, with only a relieving letter, I am unable to demand a competitive salary. MNCs typically require a payslip, PF, and ESI numbers, which I do not possess.

I think you can provide them with a copy of your appointment letter wherein they would have mentioned your salary details. You can also tell the HR that you had no PF and ESI account. They need not bother about your earlier PF and ESI numbers. You are the loser on PF and ESI. The new company is only trying to get the amount transferred to your new account. You need not worry.

As Roopasree has mentioned, the new company need not worry about your previous salary slip as long as you don't want them to transfer the PF amount. The offer/appointment letter from the previous company should do fine. All the best.

I would like to thank you for your reply. The situation is that the company I worked for is not a large company. I found out about it only through a consultancy. When I joined, they did not provide me with an offer or appointment letter. As I mentioned, I have doubts about whether the company is registered or not.

For example, if I were to join a multinational company, they would conduct a third-party verification process. Through this process, they could easily discover that the company I worked for is not registered. They might even claim that such a company never existed at that location. If this were the case, they might terminate my employment.

It sounds like you have quite a challenge here. I am not familiar with Indian law; however, is there anyone else in the command chain that is still available. Aren't there any business records of this organization, either clients or suppliers? I wondered if there is the possibility of getting some type of notarized letter attesting to your role in the organization.

In the future, be sure to get the required documents. While getting paid in cash obviously had some "advantages," the dilemma becomes proving your employment. Maybe others who are quite familiar with similar situations in your home country can make other suggestions.

Do you have any kind of correspondence from the company or of the company, even if it may not be related to you? Do you have a visiting card? Can you provide a reference of any client? Any website reference?

Don't be afraid. You can inform them that the company has closed down. That's not a problem. If they believe you are worth salary x, then they will offer you salary x regardless of the proof document. Be honest with them and take a chance. If not successful, explore other opportunities.

Well, I believe you have the relieving letter. You have to ask the company to trust you. Also, give references of your manager there. There is nothing to get worried about if your experience is genuine.

My view is, why do you choose only MNCs? If your family is in deep financial crisis, then you have to choose any company related to your profile. After some months, you can change your job.
