For unauthorized leave/absence, deductions shall be made from the salary. There is no legal complication in it. Section 7(2)(b) of the Payment of Wages Act, 1936, permits deductions from wages due to absence from duty.
Each company may have its leave policy. Concerning leave without pay, the normal practice is that Loss of Pay (LOP) is granted in extraordinary circumstances when the employee has no other leave to his credit. However, continuous leave without pay for more than a week shall be viewed seriously.
