Need Guidance on Conducting a Performance Appraisal: How Do I Start and What Steps Should I Follow?

I seek your help on the Performance Appraisal Exercise. I read about it while doing my PG but have never done it independently. Now I am to carry out the appraisal exercise. Therefore, you are requested to help me with this. I want to know how to conduct it. What is the procedure? What kind of form should I ask the employees to fill out (in the case of 360-degree appraisal), and what should be done with those appraisal forms provided by the employees and their superiors? How should their performance be calculated based on those forms? How should promotion and salary increments be decided based on this appraisal? Please help me immediately.

You can categorize the area (and each area is to be assigned with some points) for which you want to rate:
- Policy knowledge
- Response time
- New innovation
- Achievements
- Suggestions for improvement, etc., on the basis.

You will give this appraisal sheet to the Appraisee, Appraiser, and Reviewer. The Appraisee will first fill it and rate himself and provide himself the rate. Then the Appraisee will cross-check and provide his rates accordingly, and the verifier will finally put his points and comments accordingly.

Now, you can club the marks and get the percentage which will be calculated as follows:
- Appraisee: 80/100
- Appraiser: 70/100
- Reviewer: 75/100
Then it might be calculated as follows: (a*20% + b*40% + c*40%)

Salary Increment:
Marks % Increment
- 80 to 100: 35%
- 60-79: 25%
- 50-59: 15%
- 40-49: 10%
- <49: No Increment

Thank you for your response. However, it is still not clear to me. I have the appraisal formats and can proceed to the stage of collecting filled-up forms. I can also calculate the total marks. But I am having trouble understanding the formula used in the Performance Appraisal (PA). You have mentioned a formula as follows:

a. Appraisee 80/100
b. Appraiser 70/100
c. Reviewer 75/100

It may be calculated as follows:
(a*20% + b*40% + c*40%)

For Salary Increment:
Marks % Increment
80 to 100 35%
60-79 25%
50-59 15%
40-49 10%
<49 No Increment

Dear Devender,

I mean, you can calculate the percentage for each individual. Then, we will assign weightage as follows: 20% for the appraisee, 40% for the appraiser, and 40% for the verifier. Next, we will refer to the table to determine where the final percentage falls and provide the increment accordingly.
