Balancing Maternity and Other Leaves: How Can We Keep Both Employees and the Company Happy?

chitra.sharma
Hi, Friends.

I am very confused about a query that my Sir has explained to me. It is about the leaves given to the employees during their tenure. Our Sir says that as we are giving our female employees the privilege of 90 ML, do we really need to give them the number of CL and SL that everyone is given? His calculation is that out of 365-90 (ML) = 275 days, and in that, we give CL, SL, and PL, which counts to 33 days. He says in a year, 4 months just go away for leaves only, then what would be the productivity, especially when we work 5 days a week only.

I tried to explain to him that we have to give the employees these leaves by law. His concern for the organization is right, but the employees get dissatisfied.

Could you all kindly guide me on what I have to do now so that it would be a win-win situation for both employees and the organization?

Thanks and Regards,
Chitra

Hi,

Firstly, ML is not given (or taken) every year. It can be given to a maximum of two children. Therefore, according to company policy, all employees must be provided with the leaves they are entitled to.

Hi Chitra,

Please let your manager know that you cannot compare and mix Maternity leave and Paternity leave with CL, SL, PL, etc. Maternity and Paternity leave are completely separate and have different legal provisions than CL, SL, and PL.

As soon as he understands this distinction, it will be beneficial for him and also for you.

Hi Varun,

I have already informed him about that, but he is not ready to accept this. He is only looking into productivity, on which there is no effect due to these leaves. The worst thing is that he keeps on changing the policies at his convenience, and the employees are getting angry and dissatisfied with this.
