Role of HR Manager in Performance Management Systems: Key Responsibilities and Importance

satheesh_c72
Hello Management Experts,

Please provide me with information on the following:

Generally, respective managers or team leaders are involved in assessing the performance of their subordinates. Top management (which may include the CEO/MD, etc.) is responsible for promotions, rewards, and salary increases. Training managers play a crucial role in developing employees by providing training identified in the Performance Management System (PMS).

Other activities such as designing forms, distributing and collecting completed forms, tabulating information, and presenting to management are considered junior-level tasks.

What are the key responsibilities of an HR Manager in the PMS that would satisfy interviewers?

Thanks & Regards,
Sat.

Hi Satheesh,

Good question you asked. In most HR activities, you will observe that HR is a facilitator, especially in Performance Management Systems (PMS), which I think is very important. HR keeps an eye on the quality of the appraisal process, how well-defined Key Result Areas (KRAs) are listed, their linkage with company goals, their measurability, etc. Other aspects of the appraisal, like feedback from employees, are also crucial. Here, HR plays a vital role as employees should not be rewarded or penalized just because they are favored or disliked by their Head of Department (HOD). In such cases, HR can intervene and present their points to management.

I hope you have now realized the significance of this, and believe me, it is true in practice, not just in theory.

Regards,
Shilpi
