Is a Medical Certificate Always Necessary for Sick Leave? How to Handle Exceptions and Maintain Fairness

AKHILAA.S
Dear Friends,

I'm here with a problem from one of the employees in our office. The issue is in our company, if an employee takes sick leave for 2 days, they are supposed to submit a medical certificate. However, this person is saying he has not consulted the doctor, and after 1 month, he has obtained a fake medical certificate. So, whether we need to follow the rules strictly or give any exemption? In such cases, what should we do? If one employee is exempted, will others follow the same thing? Is a medical certificate really compulsory? Employees are taking advantage of the allotted leaves.

Please help me.

Dear Friend,

For a two-day leave, we do not need a medical certificate. Only a Casual Leave application is sufficient.

Hi Manoj,

We have established this rule to prevent employees from misusing sanctioned leaves. What is the best approach for granting leaves, including the number of leaves per year and the conditions for approving leave requests? Employees are currently misusing their allotted leaves. Should I modify the leave policy midway through the year, or should I wait until the next year? I would appreciate your valuable suggestions.

Medical Leave and Certificate Requirement

One marketing officer took medical leave for two months due to a heart operation. At the end of the first month, he called me and said, "Sir, I am joining back on duty." The HR department asked him for a medical certificate upon rejoining duty.
