Is ICFAI's PGDHRM Course Worth It for My HR Career Growth? Seeking Your Advice!

Dear Seniors,

I need your advice. I have completed my MMS in Marketing from the 2000-2002 batch, but my career has evolved into HR. Currently, I have 5 1/2 years of experience in HR and work as a Deputy Manager - HR at an Entertainment company. I am considering taking up a correspondence diploma course in HR for a duration of 1 year. Would ICFAI's PGDHRM course be a value addition? Please suggest.

I agree with Ruhi. I also suggest you go with Symbiosis.

As I have also done an MBA in HR from Symbiosis, and from what I have heard, most people suggest SCDL.

In DLP, Symbiosis is the best. It's a 2-year course, and exams + assignments are all online, so you can take exams anytime during your course validity period based on the availability of time slots.

The rest of the decision is yours.

You have completed an MBA in Marketing, but your experience is in HR. Consider doing a diploma from Welingkar, which may be part-time or correspondence. Since you already hold an MBA, there is no need to pursue a PGD.

Narsee Monjee Institute Mumbai and SBDL are not AICTE approved. So far as distance learning is concerned, they are approved by the Distance Education Council (DEC, Govt. of India). Welingkar's course was autonomous, but recently it received DEC approval. You can attend the course on Sundays as a part-time student.

In terms of reputation, NIMS is good, but the industry recognizes courses of Welingkar as it recognizes NIMS. I feel you can do a certified recruitment course from Confluence Certified Recruiter or HRHOUSE. This will help you stay updated in recruitment.

Secondly, pursue a 1-year diploma from NIMS or Welingkar. Your experience will keep you moving ahead with these certifications.

Take your own decision as your heart says. Do not be confused. Don't get confused about recognitions; distance programs are not AICTE approved.

They will give you certification only. With an MBA in finance, you are doing an HR job, so you have gained experience. If you want to know the subjects in detail, you can go for a diploma. Certifications are now gaining importance in MNCs. Since you are in corporate HR, I would advise as follows:

1) If the job profile includes T&D, pursue a PG in T&D.
2) If you really want to make a difference, consider NCFM (Corporate Governance). You can visit the NSE website.
3) Certifications.

Why am I suggesting NCFM? How it is linked with HR is a question that can be asked. Now, consider Corporate HR with a Corporate Governance Certificate; it will give the impression that you are updating yourself with significant concepts like M&A, employee stock option plans, and corporate governance, which are actually functions of an HR manager with involvement from other departments. Take care, make your decision with your heart.

Yes, IMT is good but distance learning programs recognized by DEC, not AICTE. Right now, there is no distance learning diploma recognized by AICTE.

Actually, I was doing my MBA from ICFAI. I am not satisfied with its policy. It charges $1000 per group in which you fail, making it very expensive. Therefore, I would not recommend going for ICFAI.
