How Long Should Full and Final Settlements Take After Resignation? Seeking Advice on Delays

MBA_Archana
Hello Everyone,

I have a question related to full and final settlement of employees. Can anyone suggest to me?

In my company, an employee resigned on April 17th, 2008, and we completed his separation formalities immediately upon his resignation. However, to date, our HR department has not signed his full and final settlement. The employee has approached me multiple times asking for his final salary check. When I inquired with our HR department, they mentioned that the process is ongoing and will take more time. They did not provide a specific date for the completion of the settlement.

I am confused about how to address the resigned employee. Is it right to convey the wrong message to any person? Life involves many adjustments for everyone.

Now, my question is this: Is there a fixed time limit to clear the full and final settlement of employees? After an employee resigns, how many days does a company take to start the full and final procedure, and how long does this process typically take? Please advise on this matter. Does this process genuinely take a long time, or should I discuss with HR why there is a delay in the process?

Hi Archana,

There is no fixed time limit for F&F processing. It differs from company to company. There can be many reasons for F&F not happening, so you need to ask your HR department the specific reason for which the F&F is on hold. This way, you can respond to the employee accordingly.

Hi Archana,

Please ask the employee to send you an official email regarding this matter. Once the employee sends it to you, kindly forward the same to the HR department. By the way, which department are you in? If you are not in HR, are you the point of contact for full and final settlement?

If you are not the point of contact, please direct the employee to the relevant person. Full and final settlement time varies from company to company.

Regards,
