Navigating PF Transfers: What Happens When You Switch Jobs Again?

I need your valuable feedback. Suppose I worked for company A and joined company B. I requested a PF transfer from A to B, and the request has been processed. Now, I change my company and join company C. In this case, what will happen to my PF transfer request from company A to B? Will there be any impact? How will I know that the transfer has been completed?

Usually, it is an employee's responsibility to have their PF transferred by the company's admin/account executive/consultant. For each new employee, Form-2 and Form-13 are completed. Form-13 is specifically used to transfer the PF from the old company to the new one. Once the form is filled out, it is sent to the PF office for the transfer of the PF amount.

Kindly check with your B company whether the PF transfer form has been submitted to PF office or not.
IF yes, then take that submission receipt copy from B Company and again apply for PF transfer in C Company. Remember your PF number would be same.
IF NOT, then request them to don't send the application and apply with C Company
You have to do contionious followup with PF department as you know PF office work.

Hi, why wait? I think you must inquire with your company B why it takes 2-3 months for the PF transfer, as it usually only takes about 1 month. You can also check the transfer status with the PF department by providing your number. If the transfer is not processed by company B, you can transfer it to company C. When you leave one company and join another company, the new company where you have joined will also provide you with a form to fill out. In that form, you are supposed to write details about your old company and your past PF account number, so you need not worry. Your PF cannot be transferred without actually joining the new company because it requires approval from both parties. If one company initiates the transfer order of your PF account to the PF department but the other company does not provide details about the new employee and does not request the transfer of that candidate's PF account, your PF account cannot be transferred. Therefore, you may consider joining company C.

It's a very simple process to get your PF account transferred from one company to another in case of a change. As you have mentioned that you left one company and joined another, and then left that company to join a new one, here are the steps you need to take in such cases:

1. If your PF account doesn't carry a large amount of money, I would always suggest withdrawing it.
2. If it does carry a substantial amount, keep continuous follow-up with your second company. Ensure that the required documents have already been submitted by the previous employer for the transfer of the amount.
3. You may also directly approach the PF department to get information on the processing. You will need to know your PF number, and if you have the receipt of submission, it will help you inquire.
4. Once the amount is transferred, you can ask the new employer to transfer your dues from the second employer. The process will remain the same.

Note: You may contact your ex-employer to inquire about the submission of required documents and the existing ones for transferring the account.

The form No. 13 must be duly filled in by the employer. First of all, the employee should approach the HR Manager, inform them, and get the PF transferred. Unless you approach somebody, they will not take care of it, whether you are transferring from two organizations or three or more than that.

Please note that if PF of Company A has transferred to Company B and you joined Company C, then the PF from Company B is to be transferred to the account of Company C. If the PF of Company A is not transferred to Company B and you have joined Company C, in that case PF of Company A as well as Company B can be transferred directly to the account of Company C. In this case, a separate PF Transfer form (Form-13) is to be filled and submitted to the PF authorities of Company C.

However, if the PF authorities provide information on the fund transfer, it would be better to be in touch with the authorities to get the status.

Hi,

Every company has a different P.F. (Provident Fund) establishment code that is prefixed with your PF account number. In case you join company C, it is the duty of Company C to process your transfer in Form-13, which will require information about your previous PF account number in company B. If you have a PF account number in company B, then the transfer takes place automatically from B to C through Form-13. If you haven't yet received your account number in Company B, then your primary duty would be to collect it and then apply for transfer in Company C.

If your PF is transferred from Company A to Company B (please confirm with Company B, and you will also receive a transfer intimation letter from the PF office), then you can apply for a fresh transfer from Company B to Company C. This is the PF office procedure. All transactions of money from the PF account will be intimated to the address you provided in Form 2 without fail, so please check it.

I hope you have inquired with Company B because, as per your declaration that you have filled up Form-13A in Company B, and if you are the representative of statutory compliances for Company B, then I assume you know the name of your PF Clerk. You can simply ask that Clerk or find the name from the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the PF office. They will provide you with the summary of your PF account if your duly filled Form-13A has been submitted. If not, inquire about the status of your Form-13A submission. If they are not providing proper information, please obtain at least the P.F. account number of Company A and the date of joining. You can then contact the P.F. office and speak with the Public Relations Officer at Contact No. 040-27564571 to gather the necessary details.

For instance, if your P.F. amount has not been transferred, you can simultaneously submit forms for both Company A and Company B using Transfer Form No. 13, 5, and 10. I recommend not relying on others for this process. If possible, visit the P.F. office in person to submit the forms and obtain an acknowledgment receipt.

According to the rules and constraints of the transfer process, it typically takes 45 days from the submission date at the P.F. office for the transfer to be completed.

You have not specified how many months you have worked with A & B company. You can transfer or withdraw your PF, but to avail of the pension fund benefits, you need to have worked for at least 6 months. If an employee leaves before completing 6 months, the fund will be forfeited. For withdrawal, you need to fill out two forms: Form 19 for PF and Form 10C for pension. For transferring funds, you should use Form 13. You can transfer your PF deposits only if your PF numbers with Company B and your current employer are the same. Alternatively, you can opt for withdrawal.

There are no issues in this regard. As you mentioned, the transfer is in process. After transferring the amount from A to B, proceed to apply for a transfer from B to C. However, it is advisable to wait for a gap of 15 to 20 days after the transfer from A to B.

You can claim a transfer from B to C. However, you have to maintain correspondence with the B company (either to know the transfer status or to get an account slip which shows the transferred amount in your balance). Alternatively, you can directly contact the Regional Provident Fund office.

I have been reading about the PF queries here. I have some queries of my own. Hope you can shed some light. I had been working with the same company for 3 years. I had submitted my resignation letter, but it was not accepted, and they created problems in relieving me. I had to pursue higher studies and had to leave without settlement. If you are shifting to Company C, you need to approach the PF department and inform them. Then, you will need to fill out the PF transfer form for Company C.

This discussion about the PF reminds me of the issue we are facing regarding the company's contribution to the PF. Actually, my company is contributing towards the PF until the employee's basic salary is below 6500 Rs. However, during appraisals, when the basic salary goes beyond 6500, the company abruptly stops the contribution. I am not sure if this practice is right or wrong.

Is this decision illegal? Will the company have to face severe consequences if this practice is followed?

Actually, the company cannot stop the PF deduction of employees who are receiving 6500 or more (basic+DA), which gradually reaches that level (as in your case). According to the PF Act, employees who join the company with a basic+DA exceeding 6500 are eligible for PF exemption.

If you have requested to transfer your PF from A to B and the request has been processed, then you need to fill up Form-13 in your C organization and submit it to the PF office. This way, all your PF will be transferred into your C account.

I have come to know that if a company is not cooperating with an employee and is not endorsing or processing the PF form, then that employee can get it endorsed by any SBI branch manager and submit it directly to the PF office for withdrawal. Please let me know if it is correct.

If you have requested a Transfer of PF from A to B, the A company's PF will be added to the B company's PF Account, which can be expressed as A+B=X. This X amount of PF will become a single unit of PF and can be transferred to another company and so on in the future as well.

There will be no impact on the amount, and if the A company has already transferred the amount to B, then you have no pending settlement with company A. You can go ahead and transfer to company C.

The law of the land states that if an employer wishes to provide statutory benefits in addition to the normal benefits mandated by law, then the employer is free to do so. It is entirely at the discretion of the employer whether they would like to offer statutory benefits beyond what is required by law. Therefore, in your situation, if an employer does not want to deduct P.F. from employees with a basic salary + DA exceeding 6500/-, then they can do so legally. The law does not compel the employer to deduct P.F. from employees with a basic salary + DA exceeding 6500/-. Hence, always remember that if an employer is deducting PF from all employees of the organization regardless of the statutory ceiling, then they are actually doing us a favor rather than causing harm.

For PF transfer, the employee needs to fill Form No. 13, and this form is deposited in the PF office after verification from the employer. If the company has its own PF trust, then the same procedure is applied. The PF transfer form may be deposited in the PF officer by the employer or the employee. If the accounts of all three companies are maintained by the same office of the RPF commissioner, there won't be any problem in transferring the entire accumulations to your new account straightaway.

Even otherwise, when your transfer request in FORM 13 goes to the respective PF authorities of Company B, they will not effect the transfer unless the earlier request for transfer from Company A to B is processed.

However, there is nothing wrong in ensuring whether the PF accumulations have already been transferred to Company B before submitting the necessary transfer form (FORM-13) to Company C.

This is the actual procedure for the PF to get transferred:

If you have joined and left company A and joined company B, it is your responsibility to transfer your previous account to your present one, which is company B. Once you join Company B, you need to submit your Form 2 (Nomination Form) and Form 13 (Transfer Form) to your present employer (B). They should then send these forms to your previous employer (A), where they have to attach your yearly contribution Statement (Form 3A). Make sure your previous employer (A) does this without fail. Sometimes they may not follow the procedure or may lose the papers. Company B will then send it to your regional PF office for further processing. After 2 months, inquire with the PF office through B to check if your account has been transferred. If not, repeat the same procedure. If it still does not happen, give your transfer letter directly to the PF office through your present employer. Once all the amount comes to your present account (B), you can follow the same procedure as before. If the amount has not come to your account (B), you can apply for two transfer forms for both A and B through C.

You can transfer the PF money from Company A to B [through Form 13]. The employer B will now send the transfer request to the employer A for the authorized signature/clearance, which will be forwarded to the PF office.

You can do the same activity when you move from B to C. Now the employer C will initiate the request to the employer B who will liaise with the PF office.

First, you have to verify with 'a' organization's office whether the amount was transferred to "b" organization's PF office.

Secondly, you verify if it is transferred, then you confirm 'b' organization's PF office whether the amount was credited along with the service. If not, you can directly apply for transfer from 'c' organization from 'a' and 'b' on submission of Form-13 separately.

If 'a' organization's PF was transferred to 'b', then you have to submit one Form-13R through the present employer.

When you join Company C for their joining formalities, they will provide you with some forms through which you can transfer your PF. These forms are Form 2 and Form 13. It is a part of post-joining formality.

Nice to see this website. I was working at Company A for nearly 5 and a half years. In that, it was in the name of S. Uma Devi. I resigned and got married. Afterward, 4 months later, I joined another organization in Chennai (Company B). Unknowingly, I used my name as S. Uma Balasubramanian.

Upon realizing that there could be an issue with the PF transfer due to the name difference, I decided not to transfer the account to Company B and only claim the amount. If one applies for a PF transfer from the old company to the new company, what does it mean? It means both PF and pension are transferring from the old to the new company. Please correct me if I am wrong because in my case, only the PF amount transferred to the new account, but the pension amount is still showing in the old account.

I have escalated the issue, but instead of looking into the case, they simply reverted that all funds transferred to my new account, and the old account is closed. However, how is it possible when I still see that only the PF amount transferred, and the pension amount is still in the passbook of the old PF account?
