Hi All,

Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am Divisha Agrawal. I am working as an HR Supervisor with Trident Hilton, a brand of Oberoi Group of Hotels.

It is nice to have come across this site. I have just seen these games and am thankful that this site can really help novices like us in the training field.

Now, as you would be aware by now that I am new in the field of training, I want some help from you. We are facing a problem. We have a lot of young people in the system, just out of college, and they look at the workplace also as an extension of their college life. We need to build professionalism in them. We need to do training on the same, but with less theory and more practical knowledge that also directly impacts the team.

Can anyone help? Also, if there is anything that can help develop a passion for what they are doing, a positive attitude, etc.

Waiting in anticipation for your replies.

Thanks,
Divisha

Dear Divisha,

The challenge you are facing with the new recruits is a very common one. Most companies hire on-campus and expect HR/training managers to come up with solutions.

Here is what we need to do:
Always start the session with a game to lighten the atmosphere.

Organize a 'development session' (do not call it a training session as the word 'training' generally evokes negative responses from these individuals) on communication skills. In this program, we can include topics such as:
(i) What is good communication and what is bad communication? Here, cover topics that you deem relevant to your organization.
(ii) Barriers to communication.
(iii) Importance of feedback in communication.
(iv) Importance of body language and how to read and develop it.

When presenting each topic, remember to customize the content to your specific requirements.

Hope this helps.

Hi Sridhar,

Thank you very much for your reply. I think I have got a direction now for thinking. Earlier, I was completely lost. We have also decided to have a group discussion on the same with our executives, and hence will definitely come up with something. I will keep you posted on how I went about it. Please keep replying.

Thanks again,
Divisha

Hi,

I am a new member to this site. I was going through all the posts and I have come across this post which is really good. I am working for an MNC and my team consists of 28 people, but we are not in the same work location. We are in different locations like Hyderabad, Noida, and Chennai. We also have regular team meetings not face to face but through conference calls. Here, I need your help. I want a few good ice-breaking games which we can play on conference calls or something because we do not get to interact with each other face to face. Please suggest.

Thanks,
Madhavi

Dear Divisha,

When we provide training to people in the classroom, they often feel either like prisoners or vacationers. This realization led me to make a decision a few years ago to become an outbound trainer, where we impart the same principles through experiential training - learning by doing. The outcomes have been truly remarkable. Although my background is in hotel management, having worked at the Hyatt in Delhi, I am now fully dedicated to being an outbound trainer. I have also gained experience working within the hotel industry.

Let's discuss how I can contribute to your organization. You can reach me at 09811111343, and we are located in Delhi and Mumbai. We conduct numerous training sessions for various corporates in Mumbai.

Regards,
Deepak
