How Do You Answer "Where Do You See Yourself in 5 Years?" in Job Interviews?

fahim.hrd
Dear Seniors,

I am working in an Automobile company in an HR Generalist profile. I have around 2 years of experience, and now I am looking for a job change. I have faced many interviews, and many HR persons have asked me, "Where do you see yourself after 5 years?"

Please help me with the answer to this question.

Regards,
Fahim Khan

Dear Fahim,

The answer to this question depends on the goals you have set for yourself in the long term. If you don't have any set goals at the moment, you can simply say, "I want to be a useful employee first, and long-term goals will depend on the company's direction through which I can hold a responsible position in the future." I guess this answer would be appropriate.

Hi Fahim,

I will provide you with a simple yet effective answer for this:

"(Do not be specific) Say I am fulfilling my goals, completing the tasks set by my mentors and seniors satisfactorily, achieving good ratings, and being a role model for my juniors in the organization."

This response is not overly specific or diplomatic. It addresses the core professional aspects as well as the softer elements of work-life. It should work well for you. When I conduct interviews, I expect and appreciate similar answers!

Ng
