Confused About Missing EPF Documents from Employer? Here's How to Proceed

My wife has worked in a call center, and the employer has deducted EPF, but she has not received any official document from the EPF department. The employer has not provided any documents to her. How should we proceed?

Dear Praveen,

As per my knowledge, any employer doesn't give EPF official documents because it's included in CTC. When you join a new company and you want your previous PF account number to continue in the new company, then you can get your EPF number from the previous company and continue it. Otherwise, you can withdraw your PF money after 3 months of leaving the company.

If your wife is not working at present, then you can ask her employer for withdrawal of PF by submitting Form 19 and 10 C. The employer should provide the PF number allotted to your wife, which is assigned as soon as the employee joins.

The employer should also provide PF receipts (for every accounting year) issued by the PF Department. Alternatively, you can review your wife's records in the PF annual return submitted by the employer by April every year.

Normally, an employer will provide the EPF Account Number allotted to an employee. Similarly, a contribution slip showing the details of contributions made by the member and the employer will also be distributed, but this will occur only after one year. As the slip is generated by the EPF Organization, it may sometimes take time to obtain it from the organization.

The safest approach is to visit the EPF Office where your company's EPF returns are submitted and gather the necessary information. You can submit a request either to the Enforcement Officer or the Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner. State that you were employed in a particular organization and that contributions to the EPF were made on time, but no details are available. They will provide you with the necessary information.
