Sick Leave Policies in Pharma: How Do You Handle Them in Your Company?

I am working for one of the pharmaceutical companies in the HR department. I just want to know what kind of leave policies a company can have. Currently, we do not have any policy for sick leave. Kindly guide me, particularly regarding the sick leave policy.

I work as casual labor for a driving company (unable to say which one for obvious reasons). I am being asked to sign a contract which states that I can only take 4 weeks leave a year. As I only get paid for the hours I work, if I want to take more holiday off than that, why do I have to sign a contract, and why can I just not give the company notice that I will not be working for say 3 weeks at a time?
