Considering a Move from IT to Insurance HR: How Could This Impact My Career?

URGENT - HR: Difference (IT vs. Insurance)

Hi, I am working in an IT-MNC as Manager - HR and have recently received a call from an Insurance MNC for an HR position in their organization. I have been with IT for 4 years now and had a brief stint of 1 year with a manufacturing firm at the start of my career.

My queries are as follows:
1. Will it affect my career if I join an Insurance Company (MNC)?
2. If yes, how will it affect me in the long run?
3. Will it add to my career, and how will it impact my professional life?

Please let me know as I have an interview on Monday, and if it negatively impacts my career, I might not want to waste the company's and my time.

My thoughts...

1. Well, you are shifting from one MNC to another, so it should be fine in terms of CV value.
2. I think it should benefit you in the long run as you'll have experience in sunrise sectors.
3. Professionally, you'll grow and learn about HR sensitivity with a new set of professionals. In the end, it is, after all, the principles of HRM that you need to apply, no matter what industry/sector you work in. I think there should be a lot of hiring and focus on training in insurance, so you may want to brush up on these. All the best for the interview!

The new job will add to your experience in a different field and help you widen your horizons. I think it is a good option. Take it.
