Hi everyone,
The document is no doubt useful and comprehensive. However, since it is dated 2004, does not address quite a few modern trends which I feel this forum can discuss so as to get the opinion of others. Here are some points that I feel we need to consider:
- Currently, most organisations do permit employees to wear jeans and tees, except on days which are designated for formal wear or on special occasions. However, I definitely feel that the following are definitely offensive and should not be worn:
1. Baggy low slung jeans which cling very low at times appearing to be on the verge of slipping off.
2. Hipsters, especially worn by womenfolk with short tee's revealing too much of the tummy maybe upto the groin itself and the at times the buttocks especially when sitting.
3. Deep necked tees or loose fitting ones which are too revealing.
4. Similarly, extremely tight clothes which can also be either revealing or obscene.
- Clothes and accessories need to be elegant and pleasing and not flashy nor loud. The work clothes should be just that and not a fashion statement and the workplace should not become the venue for a fashion parade.
- The other point that I think needs to be discussed is as who the onus lies on to lay down the guidelines and implement them. Especially when some of these could be gender sensitive and the differentiating line between acceptable and obscene could be touchie issues.
Hope we can have some concerned views.
Regards,
Praveen.
