How to Handle a Team Leader Wanting to Quit Because a Close Friend is Leaving?

Hi,

How are you? I hope you are all doing well.

I have an issue today. In my organization, I have a team of 4 members, which consists of one Team Leader (TL) and 3 executives. One of the executives is under notice; she is leaving the job due to health and personal reasons. As one of the resources is quitting, the TL also wants to quit and submit her resignation. We discovered that the reason for this decision is that the team member who is leaving is a very good friend of hers.

Can anybody help in solving this problem?

Thanks and regards.

What else can we do to solve the problem? In fact, I feel that would not be a proper reason. And if so, it is a proper one, then what can you do now? Convince the team leader stating how important she is to the workplace. Also, make her tell the same to the person who is going off and try to bring her back to your place because teamwork really matters, isn't it? 😊

Hi,

This may not be the true picture that you see. When the executive is resigning due to health and personal problems, she wants to convey that either she may not work in the coming few days until she is fully recovered or she will work in a company that is near to her place.

The TL says she is resigning as the former executive was her good friend. So what does that have to do with your work? If the executive will stay unemployed, would the TL also stay unemployed until that time?

Chances are that both of them have got a job at the same place, or the executive has promised the TL that she will keep a position for her, or the TL is lying and has searched for herself a better opportunity.

I think it is wrong to mix one's personal and professional life together. It's impossible that you stay dependent on one person all through your work. People should stand up for their respective points rather than giving baseless answers.

If you still think she has not made up her mind completely, then you may counsel her and let her know the difference between personal and professional chapters. Ask her to tell you the truth, and you may be able to help her.

Hi,

Thanks.

Now she has new issues with relieving; the management has asked her to leave by the end of the month. As per her resignation, she has 5 more days to serve the notice. She is fine to go but she wants to be paid for the 5 days during which she will not be working with us, as all the relieving formalities and issuing of letters will be done as per management's date.

Thanks
