Distance Education for HR: Are These Courses Recognized and Worth Pursuing?

Hi, I am working as an Executive HR and have completed my MA in Industrial Psychology. My organization requires me to obtain an additional qualification in HR. Are distance education courses recognized? Can anyone please assist me with this? Which course should I pursue?

Distance education depends on the institute chosen. Try out in Symbiosis and ICFAI. All IIMs & XLRI have satellite courses in HR.

If you are practically working in HR and pursuing a course in HR, it will definitely be recognized as you will have a blend of both theory and practical experience. Since you are in Mumbai, Welingkar Institute in Matunga offers special part-time courses on HRM on Sundays and another option on Saturdays and Sundays. Admissions are open. Is this your first meet for Mumbai CHR? I would like to know the response. We had a meet for Guj HR on 25th May 2008. We had 25 members in the meet, and in the database, we have 110+ members.

With respect to the correspondence course, I agree with Peerji and would also like to say that if you intend to attend the classes, you have to choose an institute close to your place of work or stay. Even Xavier's offers Diploma courses along with Wellingkars. In fact, even correspondence courses have meetings on weekends. If you attend these classes, you will have better interaction. If you are still in doubt, feel free to give me a tinkle.

You were inquiring about the HR meet, I guess it should be in another column where it is mentioned Cite HR Mumbai meet. Just for your information, there were two meetings held where I have organized one. This is the second one I would be organizing with 56 members on 7th June. I have already created a Yahoo group and am trying to get more Mumbai Cite HR database soon.
