Monetary remuneration computed on hourly, daily, weekly, or piece work basis is called Wages.
A fixed monthly wage is usually called a salary.
Most of the Indian labour legislations use the term Wages and not salary.
S for Staff and remuneration paid to Staff on a monthly basis is called Salary.
W for workmen and the remuneration paid to workmen is called wages.
Of course this is not definition but this is the way it is understood in India.
