Many companies are enforcing a six-day work week, making it mandatory. However, according to Indian labor laws, the legal limit is 48 hours per week. Doesn't this practice seem illegal?

As of now, our laws (Factories Act, Mines Act, and Shops and Commercial Establishments Act) define the days of work and hours of work as six days and forty-eight hours in a week. There is nothing wrong or illegal if companies are enforcing a six-day workweek as mandatory. The labor laws do not state that working beyond 48 hours per week is illegal. Rather, labor laws mandate paying wages at double the rate for working beyond 48 hours.

Suppose one is earning ₹9600 for normal working hours in a week. If the person works 60 hours in that week, they would receive an extra ₹4800 in addition to ₹9600, making the total sum ₹14400. Dear HR, ensure that practices are legal rather than justifying illegal actions.

(Fact Checked)-Your explanation is accurate. Working beyond 48 hours per week is not illegal, but companies must pay double the rate for extra hours. Good job! (1 Acknowledge point)
