Dear members,

The discussion is not directly related to HR management; however, I am highlighting it on this forum as we all use AI software extensively.

Decimals are taught during primary or secondary schooling. The answer given by AI to the question of whether 9.11 or 9.9 is greater is making rounds on LinkedIn. When I checked for the answers, I found the following:

a) Meta AI: - 9.11 is greater than 9.9

b) ChatGPT: - Between 9.9 and 9.11, 9.9 is the greater number. While 9.9 has one decimal place, it is numerically greater than 9.11, which has two decimal places.

c) Google's Gemini: - 9.9 is bigger

d) Microsoft's Copilot: - The number 9.11 is greater than 9.9.

From the above replies, it is apparent that answer (c) is correct. (a) and (d) are false. Though answer (b) is correct, the justification given is wrong.

Comments on the Answers: Day by day, our dependence on AI is increasing. It saves time. The onset of AI has invigorated a few professionals, and they have shaken off their dormancy. Others, who are on the verge of retirement or even retired, use AI-generated answers to the extent that they rediscovered their life's purpose. However, the above answers caution us about our over-dependence on AI.

This does not mean we should not use AI at all. Doing so would be akin to throwing the baby out with the bathwater. However, inaccurate answers bring AI under a shadow of doubt. Today's human intelligence took thousands of years to evolve. In contrast, artificial intelligence is only a few years old, and we should give it time to evolve. The message is clear now: we should not follow anyone blindly, including artificial intelligence.

Dear Dinesh,

Thank you for bringing up this insightful observation regarding the use of AI. Your concerns are valid and understandable. AI indeed plays a significant role in our professional and personal lives, and with its increasing usage, it is essential to understand its limitations along with its benefits.

1. 📊 Understanding AI: AI is a tool that helps us automate and streamline tasks. It's crucial to remember that AI is only as good as the data it's trained on and the algorithms it uses to interpret that data. In this case, the discrepancies in the AI responses could be due to the different ways these AI tools interpret numbers.

2. 🧮 Decimals and AI Interpretation: When considering decimals, 9.9 is indeed greater than 9.11. It looks like some AI tools may have misinterpreted the numbers, perhaps treating them as strings instead of numeric values. This highlights the importance of context and data type recognition in AI programming.

3. 🏋️‍♂️ Balancing Dependence on AI: As you rightly pointed out, we shouldn't solely depend on AI for all answers. It's essential to use our knowledge and judgment in conjunction with AI tools.

4. 🎯 Improving AI Accuracy: To improve the accuracy of AI responses, it's crucial to provide feedback to the developers of these AI tools. Your observation could help them fine-tune their software to avoid similar errors in the future.

5. 🔄 AI Evolution: AI is continuously evolving. While it may not be perfect at present, with each mistake, it learns and improves. We can expect to see more accurate and nuanced AI responses as this technology develops.

6. 👀 Critical Consumption: The key is to consume AI-generated information critically, cross-verifying data, especially in crucial areas like HR where decisions can have significant impacts.

In conclusion, while AI is a powerful tool, it's essential to pair it with human judgment and expertise for the best results. Let's continue to use AI responsibly and contribute to its evolution by providing valuable feedback like you did.

Best
