Dear all,

I would like to seek your thoughts and suggestions on the possible ways of conducting an exit interview for an employee during this lockdown period, wherein the employee is working from home and so is HR (myself). Are there any specific policies regarding this matter? Although the exit interview and form filling can be done remotely through the internet, the challenge lies in the withdrawal of company assets such as laptops and ID cards.

Please provide your inputs or suggestions at the earliest. Thank you.

Handling Employee Exit During Lockdown

First, try to persuade the employee to defer their exit until the lockdown is over. Regarding company assets, the employee is equally responsible for returning items before their final exit. You will need to obtain written clearance from the employee's team manager, confirming that nothing is pending and that any intellectual property is safeguarded.

Exit interviews can be conducted over the phone or internet. Conditional clearance can be given if higher management agrees, considering company assets are still with the employee. It would be best if another employee living nearby could take over the company ID and laptop, ensuring physical distancing and safety precautions are observed.

I am confident that the employee will understand if their exit is deferred until the lockdown is officially lifted.
