Hi all,

I am working in an IT company based in Noida. I have attached the holiday list for the calendar year 2020. Could you please confirm if the occasion of Maha Shivratri is a national holiday? In my view, it is a festival holiday. Kindly review the holiday list once and provide your feedback.

Thank you.

Maha Shivratri is a Restricted Holiday; therefore, a festival holiday that the company is not liable to provide. An employee may exchange a regular holiday or may be allotted some RH quota by the company, but it all depends on the management.

The Admin/HR Department issues a list of holidays at the beginning of every year, keeping in view the National and Festival Holidays as prescribed by the Labour Office/Appropriate Government of the State.

In private companies, generally, holiday compensation/exchange is not allowed. You can avail of the holidays as mentioned in the list. However, if you have any personal reasons, you can apply for leave for that day.

If your company allows you to avail the facility of Restricted Holidays as per your choice, then you can choose.

Primarily, check the Holiday Policy/system of your company.
