Respected senior members,

I would be grateful if you could help me with this situation. I am working as an HR executive in an engineering college. There is a faculty member who has been absent for the last month on medical leave. He has sent a doctor's certificate by email, but it does not mention how many days will be required for recovery.

Following that, I have sent a letter to him requesting that he submit all relevant medical documents such as doctor's prescriptions, reports, and medicine bills to prove that he is ill. However, he has neither submitted any documents nor replied to date.

What can I do? Please suggest if I can terminate him. Is it legally right or not? Please guide.

Conduct a domestic enquiry. Visit the faculty member at home after giving prior intimation to inquire about his health. Ask the faculty member to submit medical papers and have them examined by your own doctor. Read the appointment order for the terms and conditions. How much leave/PL/Casual/Sick leave does the faculty member have? Send all letters by Speedpost to have a record of delivery. After following due process, the faculty member can be terminated if found justified.
