Dear Friends,
I have recently joined a small manufacturing unit in Kolkata. Our company's total headcount is around 60, which doesn't include factory laborers. Please suggest a leave policy for our back-office support staff. Currently, they are entitled to 15 days of Earned Leave (EL) and 14 days of calendar holidays. Our Marketing team receives 30 days of EL and 14 days of state calendar holidays.
I would appreciate your suggestions on how to create a unified leave policy that caters to both departments.
Thanks in advance,
Neha

Dear Neha, I believe that your registered office/head office is located at a different site than your factory. If it falls within the area where the West Bengal Shops and Establishment Act is applicable, your leave policy for employees should be designed to meet or exceed the types of leave and their allotted amount each year as specified in that particular law. Any necessary statutory approvals for festival holidays (potentially referred to as calendar holidays) should also be adhered to accordingly. Please note that as these leave grants and holidays are already being practiced, they should not be reduced.
Thank you.
