Sir, I joined a multi-state cooperative society just now as a PO. Our management is saying that I will come under the central government staff after one year and can use all central government benefits. Is this correct? Please reply.

I don't think it is correct. A cooperative society is a separate legal entity registered under the Cooperative Societies Act. As such, the employees of such an institution can never become government employees with the passage of time.

If your management is making this claim, ask them to quote some authority or government letter. As learned member above has commented-cooperative society and government are two different agencies.

What exactly is the reason for your query?
I do not see any reason why the management would lie about this. They have nothing to gain (or do they?). You did not join the company because you thought you would get a government job. So what difference will this make to you?

From your query, it's understood that you have been employed by a Co-op Society and are likely to enjoy Central Govt. benefits. This does not mean you will become a Central Govt. employee automatically just by enjoying the benefits that Central govt. employees have. So long as your employer is a Co-op Society, it is advisable to refer to your Terms & Conditions applicable to employees. Societies coming under the governance of the Central Govt. are not government offices; they are autonomous bodies falling under the Co-op Societies Act or the Societies Act of the respective states.

"Saying"? Does your appointment letter contain any such condition or clause, or have you received any communication to this effect?

Shun the daydreaming or being misled by the management. Being an employee of a multi-state cooperative society and becoming an employee of the Central Government to use benefits of Central Government employees are two entirely different things.

PS Dhingra has correctly said - these two are poles apart. Being employed in a multi-state cooperative is nowhere near central government employment! The service conditions would have been clearly outlined in your appointment order.

Why the management is making such a claim intrigues me. Could it be to tap into the dream of every Indian - get a Government job with safety and no fears of ups and downs of the economy. This claim would make most people work hard enough to avoid losing the chance of becoming a Government servant. Please analyze all the angles to this claim yourself. To my knowledge, the sectors are totally different.

Hi,
I have recently joined a multi-state cooperative society as a PO. Our management is stating that after one year, I will be considered as part of the central government staff and will be able to avail all central government benefits. Starting from January, I am planning to join the Rebahath Cooperative Society. Could you please advise if it is the right decision to join there or not?
Thank you.
