New managers often are at a loss how to manage people - in most companies individual contributors who do well get promoted to people managers as a natural career progression - unfortunately most organizations ignore the need for measuring apititude for managing people when they make these decision, nor do the the new managers receive adequate training to overcome gaps.

4. Praise in public and reprimand in private

5. Pitch in when there's a heavy load

6. Learn everything about your office and your team members

8. Do not 'vent' in front of employees

9. Focus on the solution and not the problem

10. Maintain your professionalism

11. Keep your personal life where it belongs

12. Create a 'safe' work environment: Immediately report any possible safety problems and also ensure that the environment is free of any type of harassment or discrimination.

These are really wonderful tips for manager and really help them for successful career but what I would like to add more is the knowledge and expertise on various software is also becomes very important for the managers as it saves a lot of precious time and offer you quick solution for the time taking tasks.
