Dear All,

It was during the Leadership Development Program in my org where I felt the need to pursue a professional course in HR. One of coach was a gentleman who is an XLRI alumni and heads the L&D dept in our company. He is a PhD in psychology and influenced me to a great extent.

Now coming to the intent behind creating a new discussion. I am a professional with close to 12 years of experience. My graduation and PG has been through distance education programs since I started working in a reputed BPO post my 12th Std. After working in BPO for a close to 9 years where I grew to a Manager rank I forayed into recruitments and current handling the PAN India hiring for a leading IT and ITES company in BPO space. Since I like my current job and I am pretty good at it, I was wondering what else I can do from the academics perspective to add more value to my profile. The Leadership session gave me a good for thought that I may be lacking the academics edge to reach at a certain level in my career in next 10-15 years. I may be wrong but then that is the whole intent of starting a discussion.

Most of the searches indicated that a regular graduation is a must for doing an Exec MBA in HR. I am also Six Sigma green belt trained and certified.

Look forward to hearing your suggestion(s).

Regards!

Dear friend,

Good to note that you have taken stock of your career. As a part of taking stock, you should make a career plan. Part of this career plan is to acquire qualification that is appropriate to your career goal. As a part of your career planning, do SWOT Analysis as well.

Addition of qualification is one thing but then whatever qualification you add, try building analytical skills in you. It is lack of these skills that holds back growth of large number of professionals.

About SWOT analysis again. Recently I read in Economic Times that there is one company called IPSoft. This company is floated by one Chetan Dubey in US. This company is trying to develop software whereby it is possible to automate the outsourced processes. If that happens then huge chunk of manpower that IT/ITES sector employs, will become redundant. Possibly year 2020 could be game changer. So take into account this fact as threat in SWOT analysis.

Lastly, click the following link. The discussion is quite useful to you:

By the way, I will be thankful to you if you could share the course contents with me.

All the best!

Thanks for your response, Dinesh. Appreciate it.
SWOT and career road mapping is something I have done already but my intent was more on the ground on beefing up my academics. Goes without saying that I don't only mean to beautify the profile by merely adding these academic pursuits. Agree with you completely on developing the analytical edge during the course of daily work. I want to check that lack of a strong academic background may not prove to be a handicap in the reaching the senior levels in HR dept. If that may then I would like to start taking action to avoid that situation at this point in time.
Best!
