I want to send my resume to some MNCs and big companies where I dream to work, but those companies have not given any advertisement on job portals or in newspapers right now. I visited their websites and also called them to inquire whether they have any vacancies, but they say that at present there are no vacancies. However, they advised me to send my resume with an application, and they will hold it. In the future, if they have any openings, they will consider my resume and application.

Writing a Cover Letter Without Job Advertisements

Usually, I write a cover letter for jobs with advertisements, where I start with "With reference to your advertisement on xyz portal, I hereby apply for the given post..." But in this case, as there is no opening or advertisement, I am unsure about the format for a cover letter that would create the best impression.

Uncertainty About Available Positions

I am also uncertain about the positions available in the company. I would like to work in a position suitable for my background or any mid-level positions like administration/operations executive, customer support, coordinator, etc.

Could someone please provide me with a format on how to write in the correct format using polite and professional language?

Thank you.

At the outset, let me compliment you on your enthusiasm, self-belief, and determination to make things happen through your proactive initiatives. While these qualities will definitely stand you in good stead in the long run, they need to be supplemented by some practical and pragmatic steps that you need to take to get the right opening.

To begin with, you need to get your spelling of the word "Covering Letter" right. The next step, of course, is to find answers to the numerous variables you mentioned in your last but one paragraph, particularly the suitable job opening position that would suit your academic and personal background. To do this, you will have to conduct a personal SWOT analysis and then outline the job functions that you are confident match your profile.

Once you have narrowed down the job profiles and the companies that seriously interest you, use your network of contacts to at least get an idea of the recruitment process in these companies, their bare minimum requirements, and if there are immediate or impending vacancies/openings. Only if there is a theoretical possibility does it make sense for you to draft the appropriate covering letter and attempt to push matters. Of course, by sending letters at random, there always exists the possibility of getting a lucky break, but the chances are so remote that you may end up being extremely frustrated that your efforts are not bearing any fruit.

For your reference, I am attaching a draft covering letter which you would have to suitably modify to meet your specific requirements. I would also suggest that you get your final letter and resume proofread and polished by a third party, preferably someone fluent in English.

Thank you very much for all your suggestions and motivating words. I appreciate it a lot. Thanks for the attachment; it will surely help me. I need one more help, and for that, I also posted separate threads but didn't receive any response. How can I get the list of MNCs and big companies in Ahmedabad? Right now, I want to start with any opportunity I get that gives me good experience and helps me enhance my skills. But I prefer to work with a big organization rather than a small one. For example, I would like to work at a mid-level position or in customer support at a company like Cognizant. I am ready to work at the mid-level or in customer support but prefer to work with a large organization to experience a good work culture. For that matter, I want to know if there are some good MNCs in my city.
