World Population Day

Today is World Population Day. India has 17.3% of the world's population, while China is the only country with a higher population percentage at 19.2%. This year's theme is "universal access to reproductive health services." The estimated world population as of July 9, 2012, is 7,025,071,966. This day is celebrated to spread awareness and encourage efforts to reduce the population.

In China, only one child is allowed. If a couple desires another child, they must pay the government an amount equivalent to INR 20 Lakhs. Failure to pay this amount results in the child not receiving Chinese citizenship.

It is challenging for the Indian government to enforce such regulations. Therefore, it is the responsibility of citizens like us to raise awareness.
