the company had a policy of giving extra holidays in lieu of time spent on trainings..
we used to get 30 days vacation in a year. used to split in two vacations... maximise that by combining with Ramadan in one go and a training in another.
they had a training budget for each cost center and trainings in india are real cheap vs in middle east. so if the company has a budget of 20k riyal, you can use it for a plethora of trainings in india...

Dear Chaitali,

In regard to your query about the applicability of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) in the field of HR, I would like to suggest that Lean Six Sigma is one of the very specialized management tools available to us. Before I explain its applicability in the field of HR, let me quickly brief you about LSS. In every process of the organization, we have value adding and non value adding activities. The objective of Lean is to identify these non value activities which is also referred to as waste or muda. Once the NVA have been identified then it works on reducing these NVA and creates value. After the process has been streamlined then the tools of Six Sigma, helps in further refining the process by reducing the variation happening in the process. Now since the objective of Lean and Six Sigma is organizational profitability and both support each other, so the management guru's coupled these two tools together under the name of Lea Six Sigma. In fact GE connected Six Sigma results to its executive compensation and published the financial benefits of Six Sigma implementation in their annual report.

Now regarding the application of LSS in the field of HR. HR is like any other process running in the organization having its own complexities. Even in HR we have a lot of NVA’s and process variations which rarely get highlighted due to obvious reasons. Identifying and working on these NVA’s and variations and then improving the process depends a lot on the organizational maturity and a willingness to improve. LSS finds its applicability in all the spheres of HR activities right from recruitment, admin, travel, performance appraisal, training and OD, etc. Using LSS as a tool, you can not only improve your existing process but also design good processes and also achieve your Key Performance Indices.

I am sure this will be of some use to you.

Now regarding training on LSS, we are one of the leading lean six sigma training organization with global reach. You can read more about us by visiting our official website. Also we are organizing LSS Yellow Belt Training and Certification Program on 24th June 2012. If you wish to enroll for the same, you can do so by clicking. Dear Mr. Rana and Mr. Khadir,
I am a Diploma Student in HR and am planning to prepare my Project - Six Sigma in HR.
I believe both your view points will be beneficial to me while preparing my report.
Mr. Rana, could you tell me why you believe that scope of Six Sigma in HR is limited? Maybe you can give me some examples of some failed Six Sigma Projects in HR or those which did not yield the expected results?
Mr. Khadir, can you cite some Six Sigma projects which brought about dramatic changes in HR?
Thanks & Regards,
Reshmi
