Dear All,

First of all, "HAPPY DIWALI". I am working in a factory that is registered under the Factories Act 1948. I have a license valid until 2013. However, I received a letter from the Factories Inspectorate with Form No. 2, stating that we need to fill out the form and pay the associated fees. My question is, if my license is valid until 2013, why do I need to renew it?

Awaiting your reply.

Thanks in advance.

Normally, such a letter comes when there are some changes in your factory or some error on your part. You might have:

1. Increased the manpower.
2. Increased the HP.
3. Wrongly paid the fees.
4. Given wrong information, etc.

Though your validity is until 2013, you need to pay the difference if there are any increases in your manpower or HP. If you read the table of annual fees and compare your present status, you will come to know where you went wrong. I feel the factory inspector might have visited your company and found the non-compliance.

Ofcourse, it may also be an error on part of the department. Why not go and show him your license ?

Dear Satvikas, Turnover has nothing to do with the licence fees. Otherwise, company will have to pay every year as the turnover rises every year. Regards. Clement
