Our management is requesting that we do one reverse FMEA a month. Can anyone plz explain what that is? They didn't provide any training or give any explanations! Also what is the difference between a FMEA and a reverse FMEA? We produce machined parts for transmission in the sutomotive industry. Any assistance on the definition and steps on how to would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

FMEA = Failure Mode Effect Analysis
For example, snapping of brake-wire in a two wheeler can lead to an accident. Snapping of brake-wire is a failure mode causing an effect of accident. Now, you analyse what will be the Severitiy of this failure mode, what is the probablity of Occurrence, and can this failure mode be Detected. Based on your analysis you take Preventive Actions, such as desinging a high-strength, rust free, rod-like brake-wire etc.
Reverse FMEA is reverse of the whole process.
for example, you are taking a shower and burnt your skin. The failure modes can be electric shock, mal-functioning of thermostat, malfunctioning of water mixing knob etc. Now you take Preventive Actions to eliminate Electric shock possibility, Thermostat malfunctioning possibility etc..

So it is basically what it states which explains why I couldn't find anything about it anywhere online! There are no specific steps needed to be followed? Thank you for your input - I appreciate it!

Reverse FMEA is a structured process for the FMEA`s reviewed. Performed by a multifunctional team, at shopfloor, based on real data. Nowadays it is specific requirement from GM and Renault Groupe.
