Greetings,

The ussage of online social communities and internet surfing have been a common cause of concern as it affects the productivity . On the contrary some companies that are doing excellently well have been able to chanalise on this. I understand it requires an environment where in standards can be set by the organization leaders and later monitored by reporting manager to keep the usage under control. Please find two article discussing the concerns

The first article is about the situation that we currently face - Social media in workplace
Social Media in the Workplace - Using Social Media at Work - Entrepreneur.com

The second article is a report on social ranking in top companies such as Microsoft , Dell, Google , AMD and others market leaders.

We the executives in fact find number of useful contacts in such social sites and in the spare time and liesure time we can use the same for healthy chatting so that we can have a sense of relaxation. Hence there is no harm in permitting these sites in organizations provided they should not affect the very functioning of the employees. A little supervision and monitoring will help us restrict people who fall into the habit of spending much time in browsing such sites.

good-afternoon
Social networking sites should be banned or not it depends upon internet
policy of the respective organisation .
So one should not access these sites during their offical hrs ,
although these sites may act as stressbusters during hectic hrs & schedules .

Most of the companies banned such type of websites but these resources are useful for HR people to increase their productivity. Now these days - linkedin, facebook, orkut and many other jobs classified sites are good resources to hire people. <link outdated-removed>

My company allows all the site........this is the kind of freedom i enjoy in my company. I work with a US based company which did not get affected even in the slowdown. Also the leaders do not have question on the employees' productivity. Although more their faith in the Indian offices has increased. Indian offices have generated great revenue. Freedom never affects productivity...........it makes the employees responsible!!!

Dear Prerna ,
Thanks for your inputs. I was really keen to know the policies and practices that any company which is doing well irrespective of the internet use . As shared in the studies , the companies with highest social ranking are most profitable. Hence I am sure , they could set certain guidelines, which have yet not been known by others , hence not implemented.
In this discussion , I really want the HR's to share thier best practices so that we can have resolution for all.

hi..
its your and your organisation choice buddy.
its depend upon the staff of your organisation. if they mostly missuse and waste the working time, and not do their own jobs in time, than it should be banned.

Hi
I am working in a Canada based software company where we do have internet marketing section- one of the prime department we have. Before joining here I was of the opinion that most people use all these social networking sites for time pass...
But now I could feel a great difference in my thoughts perhaps because of the experience I had, being in the HR side.........
Its one of the best way to know more about the world we live on... we will get the recent updates regarding any topic also an edifying processor too.
But freedom given by the company should not be misused at any cost!
