Can anyone tell me if a holiday falls on a weekend, is a compensatory off given on a weekday?
I am in the IT industry, and we have saturdays and sundays off. This year, a number of holidays fall on these two days, so I was wondering what is the policy regarding that in IT companies.
For example, last year, Diwali fell on a weekend and a compensatory holiday was given on Monday.
Please throw some light on this.

Hi As per law company need not give any compensatory off if a holiday falls on a weekend but if company wishes it can give compensatory off but no compulsion siddharth

Is it compulsory for Private Sector to declare compensatory OFF if holidays appearing on weekly OFF Saturday/Sunday.
We are in Engineering company in Maharashtra, with 10 employees having Saturday & Sunday as weekly Off.

As per law 12 public holidays is must include four national holidays. if company wishes they may give compensatory holiday on weekdays like any monday or friday if depends upon company policy. see ours also engineering company so here is no compulsion for compensatory holiday but we will give one compensatory holiday its all depends upon the company

This is not mandatory that you have yo provide Com-off for holidays but i suggest you please discuss this issue with your top management and for employee satisfaction try to provide com-off for these days.

All companies have different rules. We have holidays only on sundays, and if any holiday falls on sunday, our company gives another holiday in lieu of that. Total 10 holidays are given in a year.

i would like to know how is section 52 and 53 different from each other. If a worker works on his weekly off(i.e. on sunday) then he will be entitled to comp off righ. so will he be dealt according to section 52 or 53 of the factories act. kindly explain

If any national holiday falls on Sunday , which is a weekly off than what is the rule for paying national holiday which falls on Sunday (Weekly off) if it is given as weekly off then where is the national holiday, our company gives only on Weekly off (Sunday) as holiday only 9 Holiday consider in a year . Please suggest. also that some company is mandatory for Saturday and Sunday both are as weekly off is it mandatory for all private company or Saturday half day which is mandatary please suggest.
