Through the jungle I went
Bent on shooting a Tiger, my intent

A Bengal Tiger has eaten my wife
No doubt, I will avenge my poor darling's life

Too much quiet, snakes, and leeches
But I do not fear these sons of beaches

Hearing a loud noise, I jump with a start
But the noise is coming from a fool's heart

Taking care not to be frightened
I clutch the rifle tight with my eye on sight

Should the Tiger come, I will shoot him down
Then return to my native town like a hero renowned

Through the trees, I spot a cave ahead
I tell myself, "Banerjee, be brave" in my stead

I proceed with much care and caution
From afar, I catch the scent of the Tiger's lair in motion

My legs shake, sweat pours, I start to pray
Thinking I will shoot the Tiger some other day

Turning around, I start to flee
But the Tiger gives a bloody roar, spotting me, a Bengali

Bounding from the cave like Pele on the field
I run shouting, "Kali Ma, where did you yield?"

Through the jungle, I keep running fast
With the Tiger on my tail, looming close at last

I tell myself, never again in my life
Will I take such a risk for my foolish wife!!!!
