Dear Sharmila,

This is a very useful document, and I would like to recommend that all HR professionals read it. Here, Ulrich has shown what future HR is like and lists 8 areas.

Some of my own views on future HR are as follows:

I believe the time has come for the Human Resource function to transcend the traditional thinking molds and its preoccupation with routine issues to encompass the following:

The repository of Organizational knowledge is in the collective consciousness of its employees, which constitute the Organizational mind. This then becomes the domain of HR leaders to understand and appreciate the subtle workings of consciousness and help redirect the Organization to face new challenges boldly.

This would require a deviation from piecemeal, linear thinking and embrace non-traditional forms of thought that value systems thinking and brain re-engineering.

The concepts I have introduced through E-Consciousness will help appreciate different strands of consciousness and refine subtle levels until they work coherently in an enlivened state.

I call upon serious-minded professionals to assist in the creation of a new breed of HR Practitioners who are non-linear whole-brain thinkers.

They are the Change agents and value-centric leaders who will help Organizations reach newer horizons in the 21st century, as the world is certain to face many uncertain periods in its entire history.

The 21st century needs HR Practitioners to become custodians of values, use whole brains, and transcend from linear to non-linear thinking so that they become partners in driving the business to survive the intense competition and yet remain market leaders.

They believe in head & heart knowledge and have personally experienced what intuitive decision making is.

Anything short of a holistic model, which simply shuffles papers and basks itself in glorified clerical paper-pushing, will make a function devoid of the standards expected of a true profession.

Some HR Practitioners should take the blame for the low esteem of the function because they use new impressive terminology which they themselves fail to comprehend and others who have a modicum of understanding then fail to put them into practice where they work. They must change first instead of putting new wine in old bottles.

Truly, as I have introduced these words- HR should ultimately become the HR- Human Rhythm of the Organization pulsating in rhythm with the heartbeats of employees and the Organization together.

Cheers,

Prof. Lakshman
