Hi everyone,

Recently, I received an offer from a company for the position of Assistant Manager in Sales & Marketing. However, they have not provided me with an offer letter; it was only verbally confirmed that I have been selected for the role. Additionally, they mentioned that within the first month of joining, I will be given a minimum target to achieve. My performance will be monitored, and if I fail to meet the target in the first month, they will deduct 50% of my salary, and the same procedure will be followed the next month. Furthermore, they stated that the official appointment letter will be given after three months, and until then, I will be under a contractual period.

I am feeling unsure about whether to accept this job offer. Please advise.

Hi Santosh,

This organization seems very cruel apart from being very unprofessional. While targets in the 1st month seem okay, deducting 50% of the salary is very cruel. They should give you some kind of document mentioning your contractual job along with other terms and conditions of deducting 50% of the salary (this is so absurd) and giving an offer letter after 3 months, etc.

My suggestion is to talk to these people about your letter of appointment on a contractual basis and take up this job only if you are in desperate need of a job.

You are right, don't join. It seems they are unprofessional. I think they are very frustrated and looking for a sales manager who can achieve their target. So, they are looking for a person like you. Either they are unable to judge your competency level, so they are offering like this. Better don't join; go for another opportunity.
