Dear All,

I am proposing to my management to include coverage for the parents of employees in the Medical Policy at Co. Cost. Therefore, I need help from all of you to determine if your company covers employees' parents. Are they also covered under the Pre-Existing Condition clause?

Please assist me as I aim to understand the prevailing practices in the industry so that I can convince my management, as the current cost is very high. I hope my HR community members will respond to my query.

Thank you all in anticipation.

Shilpi

Dear Shilpi,

We have taken a floater policy for complete families, including parents of our employees. In the said policy, the insurance company will charge some load for parents, which results in a higher cost.

Yes, parents are also covered under pre-existing conditions. In your case, I would suggest that if your management does not agree on the same, you can ask for a contribution from your employees.

Dear Shilpi,

In our company, we have a practice of insuring families through a Family Floater policy. In the case of unmarried individuals, it includes their parents and the employee. For married employees, we provide medical insurance coverage for the employee, their spouse, and children. The premium for these policies is covered by the company. I hope this information was helpful to you.

Hi,

Our company frames the policy in such a way that for unmarried employees, we will cover only individuals, and for married employees, we will cover the spouse and child. I think you can suggest to your management to take a policy that will also cover parents. Additionally, you can opt for a policy that provides facilities for both outpatient and inpatient services. You can also ask employees to contribute to Mediclaim, similar to how PF is contributed to by both parties. I hope you understand; if not, you can clarify with me because we are also planning to do the same.

Dear Shilpi,

Our company has provided a mediclaim policy to associates and their parents. This policy is provided by Apollo Hospitals. If you want further details, you can visit this website: www.fhpl.net.
