Well, the selection of employees or workers is one of the most important task for a company or business the success or failure of a business is totally depend on the workers and their skillsets. If the employees / workers are skilled they will complete the tasks successfully when a realted task assigned to them.
Also, this selection and skills of workers is directly affect the ROI of the business and somewhere you can assume it like ROI is directly proportional to employee skillsets (if you properly accommodate with the compensation to the employee)

Dear Awesnii,

I understand your situation and here are two links to get your thoughts going. Acas - Recruitment and selection <link updated to site home> ( Search On Cite | Search On Google ) and The importance of recruitment and selection - Using effective recruitment to retain competitive advantage - Cummins | Cummins case studies and information | The Times 100

What is the literature review for? What course are you pursuing and in what mode. As you have posted a query on the net, you must be able to search using Google or other such engines. You will find more info at https://www.google.co.uk/#q=staff+re...and+efficiency
