Hey Nancy,
First of all congratulations for your new job.
Secondly, recruitment is just one of the function of HR, and it surely will add value...but yes, if you want to go for a generalist profile in the future try and develop those skills side by side. Learn other functions while you are on job here.
Also, you didn't mention that is this your first job? if yes than certainly it will add value to your career, and if not I would like to know about your past experience as well.
All the best
Regards

Hello Nancy,
Pl respond to Archna's queries.
Further to what Archna mentioned, let me also add that though recruitment is only ONE aspect of HR, it in fact touches upon the Core of the HR function--which deals with Human beings.
In fact, no other area in HR [basically core HR functions] deals DIRECTLY with human beings as recruitment does. And this where you get a chance to learn about human behaviour & the various inter-personal relationships that you will need to handle front-on as you grow up the cor[orate ladder--when you would be doing LESS of recruitment & MORE of Core HR work.
If you look recruitment as just about filling up positions, then you are missing a big chance to learn the skills that you may not get again in the whole of your career.

Hello Nancy,
Growth is always there even in a Recruitment job--only that most HR professionals prefer a Core HR job--it's more a matter of personal preference than only related to growth.
If you too fall into the same category, suggest keep your eyes open for suitable Core HR openings, BUT DON'T NEGLECT your present recruitment job. Like I mentioned, this would give you a lot of exposure into human attributes & develop your inter-personal relationship skills, something that will stand you in good stead in your future career.
All the Best.

Hey Nancy,
Thanks for the reply...
As TS suggested here that keep an eye on new openings where you can get different profile.
Now as you have already worked in a consultancy, looking into your experience company may offer you the position of a recruiter or profile related to that.
Learn from your peers who are handling other functions of HR, observe, learn and start asking questions in your free time. Slowly you will develop some skills and then give interviews for generalist profile, then introspect how much you already know and where are the gaps which can be filled.
It may sound difficult, but believe me...the results will pleasantly surprise you.
God bless...
