Hi, myself Prerna, i did graduation in BBA(H). After that i am doing MBA in distance and my specialisation is human resource as major and marketing as minor. I had marketing specialisation in BBA also. It is difficult to get a job in HR field as i dont have any experience. I am not getting job opportunity in this field, whatever job i am getting are all in consultancy firm where i do not want to do. I want to do phd on human resource but i am not sure what will be the best option for me. I am feeling like lost. It will be helpful for me if anyone show me the right path. Should i do phd or anything else?

Hi Prerna,

In today's competitive world it is very tough to land a corporate HR position with a Distance/Executive MBA degree. Every Company today looks to hire regular MBAs because of the abundance of candidates. Hence, it will be difficult for you to land a full time company job as a fresher unless you have good references to support your credentials.

With your current education, if you are not willing to work in consultancies, then you will have to try joining a very small company, may be a local firm to start your career and then as you gain some experience and exposure start building your network to land a full-time HR job..

Now let's take a look at the other option, this is not going to be easy either. It is difficult to appear for PhD entrance with a Distance/Executive MBA. You may not be able to do it from the University of your choice. However, If you are able to get a Professor and start your PhD, your career option will be to get in to the teaching line. So, ask yourself if you are a good teacher or if teaching is something that interests you. f your answer is yes, then go for it with all your heart. There is good demand for PhDs and it sure will last for sometime.

hi Prerna,
You have done MBA with distance mode that may cause this difficulties; if you really wants to do any fresher and full-time job in any reputed company then you have to pursue the MBA full-time degree from reputed institute, so if you think now also you can study again to get MBA full-time degree then go for unless the time gone.

Hi Prerna,
I personally feel that if you are getting an opportunity in a consulting firm to start with, then you should take it up. Being in consulting firm, you will get good exposure on recruitment process which will help you in getting a job in corporate. Also, consulting companies put lot of efforts in training a fresher which will be beneficial for you.

Hi
Since you wish to avoid working in a consultancy, I suggest you look at startup organizations. You will learn a lot and will build up your HR skills faster. The distance MBA which you have done may not be of much assistance in getting into a proper HR role.
All the best. Do write to me offline in case you would like to know more.
