Job hoppers are people who can’t stick to a job for long. They see opportunities everywhere and want to explore every job they can. In the last discussion, we told you about the benefits of hiring a job hopper. If you are convinced that hiring a job hopper is a thing you would like to do then you must read on. Here we have mentioned a few innovative tricks you can use to retain a job hopper. We hope you’ll try them all.
  1. Don’t Waste Time in On boarding Formalities: The first step to retain a job hopper begins as soon as you hire them. You should ensure that you get done with the job-related formalities like filling up and signing up forms quickly. A job hopper would usually have an eager soul that would want to get started with the job immediately. If you tangle them up in too many formalities, you may not see them after 1 week.
  2. Give Them a Target Every Day: A job hopper would usually be thirsty to learn new things. So, if you have got to hire a job hopper in the near future, make sure you give him or her a new target every day. As soon as the job hopper has something interesting, he or she would stick to your organization. The day he or she starts feeling bored, it might be the day you see them the last time.
  3. Let Them Learn, a Lot: If a job hopper is eager to learn things that are out of his or her job role, let it be. A job hopper would usually have an eager mind that needs to learn new things. So, if you have hired a job-hopper for recruitment's but she of she is interested in tasks like on boarding or even performance management, let them have fun. Be sure to make it clear that they need to be productive in their area before they look for more work from within the company.
  4. Give Them Space: Job hoppers don’t like an intrusion in their space. If you have hired a job-hopper and you constantly bombard him or her with questions or keep an eye on them literally, you might not see them in the office again. So, be smart and talk to the employee when you really have something to say.
  5. Accept or At Least Appreciate Their Ideas: Job hoppers have a knack for seeing upcoming problems and offering extraordinary solutions for them. While it may not be possible to implement the ideas offered by the job hopper, you might want to appreciate the idea and the intention behind it. If a job hopper feels undervalued, you will never be able to make him or her stick for long. If you can’t hold a meeting to appreciate the idea, dropping in an appreciation mail would be enough.
  6. Give Them Extra Benefits: Job hoppers often leave a job because they don’t feel comfortable in following the same rules everyone else is following. To make them feel more comfortable, you can take steps such as allowing them to work from home or allow them to work at their own hours if they do the job right. You can even offer them two shifts like 9 to 6 or 11 to 8. This will make the job hopper feel that you are taking care of him or her.
  7. Mentor Them Constantly: A job hopper constantly craves for learning new things. So in order to help him or her figure out the productive things, you can assign him or her a mentor. It would be the mentor’s job to see that the job hopper feels satisfied with the work and learns new things regularly. The mentor would also help the job hopper to stop and think about staying in your company because if a person has a got boss in the form of a mentor, he or she would give less value to switching the job.
  8. Use Their Skills in Different Roles: If you have hired a job-hopper who is constantly eager about learning new things, you can shuffle him or her in all your departments. This will help you to get work done from the job hopper and the job hopper would have to multitask and quench his or her thirst for more knowledge.
  9. Don’t Give Them Grief About Little Things: If you want a job hopper to stick to our organization for long, you should not give them grief over little things like being 10 minutes late or not meeting a minor target when all the major ones are completed. Consider the value of the overall innovativness of the job hopper and let him or her have some fun every once in a while.
  10. Urge Them to Make Friends: Finally, you should ensure that a job hopper makes friends. It is a fact that when a person is attached to other people in an organization, his or her chances of quitting a job reduce a lot. You can urge the job hopper to make friends and ask your other employees to be friendly with him from the very first day. It will help the job hopper to stick to your organization for long.
