I think Ravishank actually you should be shameful of your pathetic criticising attitude which does good to none and your grose behaviour.
Anyway I don't wish to justify myself to fools like you and also don't wish to argue with irritating creeps like you.
I did and still stand by what I have posted.

I disagree that the HR department should organize a farewell party for the employees that are leaving the company, since we should not celebrate the fact that someone is leaving us, or that we had to fire someone, regardless of the reason. If his immediate circle of friends/colleagues want to wish him/her farewell, they can do that on their own, I don't think that the company, nor the HR should be involved.

Dear Sonal and fellow CiteHR collegues,
It is true that such mails not only consumes time but also occupies substantial space in your systems. Technically, you can ask your sysadmin personnel to block all the mails with subject "Goodbye". But my suggestion is instead of blocking such mails you can issue a note intimating all to post such messages in a common location like database and a link towards the particular file will certainly save lot of space. It has the option of reading or leaving it unattended also.
Afterall, emotional feelings can not be curbed abrubtly, that too once a person decided to leave the company, because he/she might already been deprieved of so many things due to their proposed separations, so give human emotions a little consideration.

There is a saying - employees join organizations but leave managers. People are emotional when they leave the organization, so they try to share their emotions & feelings with others.

I think this problem is due to absence of email policy in your org. You should take your manager in loop and formulate an email policy. Maybe there is a policy, but people are not aware about it. So you might have to start a campaign of some kind to make people more aware about email policies.

You can also give them training on how to write professional emails & email etiquettes. If this is a common practice followed by many employees, then this has become a culture in your org. You need to take initiative to change it.

Also, as soon as an employee resigns, you must proactively tell him about the 'goodbye mail policy'. You need to put stringent measures to ensure that the policy is followed. You can stop persons relieving letter/ fine him for violating company's policy / deny references etc. Send this message to the employee in written, CC to his manager.

People say Good bye to all, because they become emotional. Any policy or control will bring negative impact not only on exiting employee, but also impact the existing employees.
Come out with a system that an employee will be freed from all the responsibilities two days prior to last working days so that they can meet to their colleagues as it will be the best way of communicating "Goodbye".
Explain them, meeting personally is respect and mailing is disrespect to say "Goodbye".
This will work better.
