good morning all,
as iam perusing my PGDM first year now iam totally confused what to take as my specialization whether HR or MARKETING ,i know that specialization will be ones career and have to take what you will enjoy ,i like HR most and as our faculty some experts have told that comparing to the marketing and hr ,marketing will be having good growth in the career in terms of position ,pay and status ,is it soo,i know initially pay will be very less for HR but after 2-3 years how it will be comparing to the 2-3 years experience of marketing guy with similar amount of skills in the respective field.and how will be the career growth for the marketing and how it will be for HR .and if we take marketing what type of jobs will be there and initially for how many years field work has to be done in marketing.

It is better that you take Major as Marketing and Minor as HR Combination of Marketing and HR is just perfect. And always prefer to opt for B2B(business to business) processes in Marketing Job

U have to consider a number of things while making a decision. Which college ru doing ur pgdm from? How is the placement record for ur college for HR and mktg? If one takes mktg then of course, many job opportunities open up. WHich is not so for HR.
Mktg also pays one more. However, it involves a lot of field work, long and stressful working hours- at least in the beginning. U have to remember that sales / mktg are revenue depts and hence will always command more pay in a company.
HR on the other hand, needs people with excellent communication skills who are people's persons and good administrators. Working in HR needs a lot of strength and resilience as a person and real passion.
