Hi, I hv got selected in a company 2months back and they have sent me a clear offer letter with all the details and salary structure with doj as 1st oct. But there was no email or call related to how to start the work on oct 1st. As its wfh and the company is operating remotely, i hv no option to go by person nd seek the clarity. Hence i hv checked with hr at nyt of 31 st sep nd on mng of oct 1 st as well. As no rply was given though she saw the messages. I mailed adding all the hr team in same email thread where offer letter was shared. But no rply. I hv called hr and asked her abt how to join as today is Oct 1 st and no info provided so far. She said she will check and get back by 2pm. Bt she didn't, i called again she said she is checking. No response in the evening when i texted asking about update she said she will update on Saturday nly nd not today!!(3) but no reply even on that day. She stopped responding to messages. One fine day she called and said joining will be from 14 th Oct, it got postponed due to some tech issues( not sure what tech issues they are). A mail was sent saying same lines that doj was postponed due to tech issues to 14th oct. Meanwhile on oct 2 nd itself i have got assets from company (mobile, charger ,headset) even before the Hr could update me about doj.

Finally, i was waiting to join on 14th oct. Then came another mail saying doj is postponed to 19th oct. It triggered me this time. Its pandemic and everyone are hit financially. Though i got an offer from another company with high package,i rejected it because just that this company gave me offer letter.

But this company is so irresponsible and dysfunctional that it never gave proper info even when asked they nly took time and came with nly postponed doj's and same tech issue statement.

I wrote an email asking for reasons for continuous postponement even after giving offer letter. Also said how this effects my financial condition. After 2 days i got a call from Arun who is some Hr, he said he called to know how things went wrong and why hr team couldn't give proper answers. But eventually things went different on call. When i went on providing him screenshots of emails and WhatsApp and offer letter with him( i provided these as he asked me to show). When all proofs were in my favor he went on twisting things and said hr is not at fault end and started blaming me for no reason. He was very rude and pointless and said Hr have lot of works and cant respond and take care of one person out of 30. He was ridiculous on call and didn't let me talk when proofs were all against them.

Later with all self-respect, i stopped him from talking and made sure he listens to me and pointed the way he is talking to me and asked not to do it as its a professional call and you have no right to raise ua voice and also clearly told him about how he was trying to cover up their team's fault baselessly. Also, even if it's 100 ppl, company has to take care of every employee, they can't escape saying there are more to handle. You can take time to resolve, but can't say I have many, not just you. The main thing, when you went to each of those 100 and selected them out of the rigorous interview, why can't you assist or clarify things to the same 100!?

He didn't respond to these questions and just went on saying the same stuff that they have a lot of work to take care of and all.

I stopped him and said I don't want to go ahead with this company as I can see how important an employee is to you guys even before starting to work, I can clearly imagine how work life is going to be in the future. And said thank you and he said ok and disconnected.

My question is, because of their irresponsible and reckless behaviour I lost another company offer and my time of 18 days was wasted and I have loss of salary which they have to pay. I want to know if I can ask for compensation?

And they called me 2-3 times and are politely asking to courier back the assets. But i don't feel like returning until i get compensated for the loss.

Can you help me with suggestions here?

Thanks in advance.
